The first Boxcutter release of 2014, following on from a recent EP on Om Unit's Cosmic Bridge imprint (which dropped at the very end of 2013), and remixes of DJ Earl and Pixelord, amongst others. Whilst the last official Boxcutter LP was 2011's The Dissolve, Barry has been busy since then releasing hypnagogic experiments on Planet Mu as The Host, and collaborating with FaltyDL as NeferTT for Hotflush. He also delivered a FabricLive mix last summer.
Whilst that mix and recent work has been at 160bpm, the Shea EP is built from three tracks of melodic 2-step garage, rich in arrangement switch-ups and detail. Inspired by old school classics like Sticky's Triplets, detroit synth work, and homemade jams like what the Railway Raver used to do, it chimes nicely with the sound of the Kinnego catalogue to date, and is the first new release on Kinnego since Beaumont's citically acclaimed debut EP back in 2011.
